The Cell as a Metaphor for the Challenges Women Face in STEM

This graphic was created to accompany an article that used a cell as a metaphor for the challenges women face in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM). The client wanted to show that there is no lack of capable women at the base of STEM, but rather they leave the field during the course of their careers. Sponsors and mentors play a huge role in helping women enter back into the STEM community, as well as helping them achieve science tenure. Despite this, women made up only 15% of Canadian-based full professors at the time the article was written.
