Pierre Robin Sequence

This illustration is intended for inclusion within a research manual on a congenital condition of facial abnormalities known as Pierre Robin Syndrome (PRS). The infant in the figure shows several physical characteristics of PRS, including an abnormally small mandible (micrognathia), a heightened palate, and the posterior displacement and retraction of the tongue (glossoptosis), causing upper airway obstruction and pressure on the roof of the mouth.
